Golf grip is one of the most important features that will affect, the performance of the individual on the greens. It is advisable to improve the grip while learning to play golf, so that a person can be effective on the greens. Practical Golf Lessons: Second-Serve Golf

Filed under: Uncategorized — The Caddy @ 10:43 am

Know what a second serve is? In professional tennis a player gets two chances to serve. Usually, his or her first try is a “power shot.” The server puts everything into the shot and tries to rifle it passed his opponent for an “ace.” An ace is a shot that the second player fails to return on the serve.

If the server misses the first shot, he or she hits a second. The goal of the server hitting the second shot is to get the ball in play. Since a miss here costs points, the server takes something off the shot to make sure he or she gets it in play. That’s the second serve.

What’s this have to do with improving your golf game? Actually, it has a lot to do with it. You can use the idea of the second shot in tennis as a practical on-course golf lesson to improve your game, a golf lesson that gives you a chance to learn by doing. It’s akin to getting instant golf tips after hitting shots. Below are some examples of what I call second-serve techniques. Experienced teaching pros provided these examples. They’re not only simple to do, they’re also fun to try.

A Month of Mulligans Golf instructor John Elliot suggested this one. The problem with golf is that you only get one shot. That’s what creates tension on the course. If you miss the shot, you end up somewhere you don’t want to be. Often, you know exactly what you did wrong on the shot and how to correct it. Maybe you used the wrong club, or you tried to hit the shot too hard. Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to hit the shot again?

Go ahead. Take another try at it. Give yourself a month of mulligans. Course and time permitting, play for a week or month giving yourself a mulligan on every shot. If you hit a bad shot, drop a second ball and hit the shot again. See if you can hit it better. It’s a great learning device, something I’ve used in golf instruction sessions with students.

After a month or so, reduce the time period to a week. Then try a day or two. After that, try a mulligan per hole for a day. You get the idea. Make it into a game with yourself. This second-serve technique will not only improve your shotmaking but also your consistency.

Apply the 10-Yard Rule Here’s another example I use when giving golf lessons. This one comes from Bob Toski, a teaching pro. Apply the 10-yard rule to your bad shots. Instead of playing from the rough or the bunker, play from the fairway. If the ball goes into the rough or fairway, drop a ball 10 yards back, but don’t take a penalty shot. Then hit the shot.

Toski’s second-shot technique improves shotmaking and injects more consistency in your game. It also builds confidence because you begin to recognize how it feels hitting the ball from the fairway all the time. In addition, it teaches you why it’s important to stay on the fairway. Most people improve their scores by 5 to 10 shots per round using this technique. Try it for a month, a week, or whatever feels comfortable. You’ll see improvement.

Use a Shorter Club Teaching pro Peter Kostis, who you’ve probably heard on golf telecasts, recommends this example. Many recreational golfers fire away when hitting from the tee. They grab their drivers, take their stance, and blast away. They’re so pre-occupied with distance that they’re unwilling to give up the 20 or 30 yards a long club produces. Unfortunately, this approach often gets them into trouble.

If that’s you, try this second-serve technique. Every time you hit a bad drive, tee up a second ball but use the 3-wood or 5-wood instead. Take a shorter, more relaxed swing. Going to a shorter club has its advantages. PurePoint Golf – Short Game Chipping Golf Instruction & Timing

Filed under: Uncategorized — The Caddy @ 1:31 am

I want to review something with you that I consider to be one of the, I don’t know, I think it’s one of the most misunderstood verbiages or terminologies in all of golf.

It’s called timing. And it’s used a lot on television and in all the magazines, but they don’t explain to you what timing is and what it means.

So, let me give you a little golf instruction lesson, and then, that way you’ll start to understand the value of the word timing. Okay, here it goes.

Whenever you watch a good player hit a golf ball and or when you hit a good shot, this is what timing means. It was your ability to swing the arms down as your left hip moved out of the way, and gets out of the way for you.

Now, there are a couple of mistakes you can make. First of all, some people swing the arms down, and this never moves and you stay still. If you do that, you would be one that would come down and the club face closes quickly at the bottom of the hit.

If your timing is off because you didn’t move the bottom out of the way, the arms will cross over real quick.

On the other hand, most of the golfing public, when they swing down, their body moves out of the way and leaves the club behind them and open.

So, a little golf instruction lesson, if your timing is off and your body’s too quick, you’ll go to the right. If your timing’s off and your body’s a little too slow, you might hook it.

If your timing is on, all that’s saying is that you have the combination of the body, the bottom part of the body moving out of the way, as the arms swing down.

Again, the body moves, arms swing down. It’s just a combination of getting the arms and the hands to match up with the bottom part of the golf swing.

Now, I believe that the setup is the key to hitting a great chip shot. Of course, you need the backswing and the downswing, but if you’re not standing to it properly, hitting the golf ball with the correct impact is going to be a very difficult thing to do.

I’m going to give you some chipping golf instruction. The next time you’re out playing, check your ball position. Critical, the very first thing, make sure that the golf ball is in the middle of your stance, not off your left foot, not off your front foot, and not off your back foot, but in the middle.

The next part of the chipping golf instruction is to make sure you put your weight on your left leg, not in the middle, not on your right leg, but on your left leg. And when you do that, take the butt end of the club, and push it over to your belt buckle.

So, you see the angle you have? This enables the golf club to swing up and down so you’ll make solid contact with the golf ball.

And then, this will enable the golf club to go up so it comes back down and makes solid contact with the golf ball.

PurePoint Golf Instruction – Driver Ball Position – Driver Golf Swing & a Better Golf Swing

Filed under: Uncategorized — The Caddy @ 12:02 am

I often see a number of amateurs prepare for their driver golf swing by walking up, after they have teed the ball up, they just take a step back and they address it. They grip the golf club and they address it, and they sort of just plot their feet down wherever they land, but let me tell you the proper way.

This way you’ll be able to get the ball in the correct position more often than not. After you have the golf ball and you’ve gripped it and you have addressed it, then you’ll just look down, take a peek down, and if this golf ball is running towards the left heel, then this is correct.

If you look down and you see the golf ball is a little too far forward off your left, that’s too far forward and you’ll probably see that the shoulders are aimed too far to the left.

On the other hand, if you look back down and you think the ball is too far back in your stance when you put this shaft along you, you’ll be aiming way off to the right.

So, after you’ve addressed the golf ball, all you have to do to get ready for your driver golf swing is bring the shaft up and lay it along your shoulder line, and it should be going in the direction you want to go with it.

If you get it too far back in your stance at address, you’ll wind up aiming your shoulders too far off to the right.

And if you get it off the left heel, this should be proper for most people.

Now, have you ever gone to play a round of golf and the first hole the wind is straight into you, the next two holes it’s blowing out of the right, the next two holes it’s from the left, then four holes in a row straight back into the wind, and then it gets worse?

The next three holes it’s blowing harder from the left. Then you get the shortest hole in the golf course downwind. And then, of course, you know the rest of the story, the next three holes, the longest holes in the golf course, dead into the teeth of it.

Well, those are tough driving days and you have to be prepared to react to it, because the wind isn’t going to stop just for you.

And when you’re playing well, I know you’re going to laugh, but it seems like every hole’s downwind. And when you’re playing difficult, it seems like every one of them is into a gale.

Remember this about tough driving days, this driver is not always the answer. How many times have you driven the golf ball 50 yards left of the fairway and only wished that you would have hit 6 iron off of the tee to get a better golf swing?

I’m not advocating that into the wind. 3 Quick Ways To Correct Golf Slice Shots

Filed under: Uncategorized — The Caddy @ 8:17 am

Finding a way to correct golf slice shots is probably the most common and sort after piece of advice searched for by amateur golfers. The weak and inaccurate ball-flight of a sliced shot has ruined many a good round of golf. Here are three quick tips to correct golf slice shots and help you shoot lower scores.

The first tip to correct a golf slice is one for the practice area or driving range. As with many problems that occur in the golf swing the causes for slicing can often be traced back to the set up. In this instance the cause of hitting slices can sometimes be due to too much body weight being put onto the toes. During the swing this causes the golfer to lean forward and produce an “over the top” swing path that attacks the ball from outside the target line – exactly what we don’t want. So, to correct golf slice problems try this little tip – when practising put a golf ball under the toes of both feet. This will make the weight go back onto the heels during the swing which can immediately change the swing path helping to correct golf slice tendencies.

The second tip to correct golf slice faults again focuses on preventing this “over the top” outside-to-inside swing path – the kind of swing path that more often than not ends up producing a sliced shot. One main contributor to this type of swing fault is when a golfer tries to hit the ball too hard. At the top of the golf swing they may even be achieving the perfect position. The problem however comes during the transition stage of the swing when the backswing changes to the downswing. The slicer in an effort to get maximum power into their shot will mistakenly throw the club head at the ball from the top position of the back swing with a forceful move with their right shoulder, causing this undesirable swing problem. A better way to start the down swing which will correct golf slice swing faults such as this is to think of pulling the handle of the club down – you can even use a mental picture of pulling on a rope. This type of action to start the down swing will not only correct golf slice problems but will also mean a swing on the right path with a more powerful strike.

Lastly, a great way to correct golf slice shots is to swing with effortless power, instead of powerless effort! What do I mean? Well let’s look at the golfer who is trying to “hit” the ball hard. His muscles are tense, his body is rigid and when he tries to deliver this earth shattering blow to the golf ball not only is his movement slowed down by this tenseness his swing is also thrown off the right path.

An easy way for this golfer to correct golf slice shots would be to relax, and swing “through” the ball, not “at” it. This lack of tension will mean a faster swing, that is on the right path which will instantly correct golf slice tendencies.
